When I went on GameTrailers today I noticed some GDC 07 videos. They put a whole section of the videos from the week from the Fable 2 dogs to Mercenaries and more. There isn’t a ton of media but it is still worth the look at the videos on the site. The Fable 2 videos are the best.
Fable 2 Keynote March 8, 2007Posted by dpcough in GDC 07.
The new revolutionary feature of Fable 2 is a dog! Molyneux’s key note was titled “Putting Innovation into Fable 2, or how to live up to promises.” Fable didn’t live up to promises so if you succeed in Fable 2 when you get home your kid will look like you and grow with you. They will also run in if you succeed in something and will be disappointed when you fail.
You also have a dog that loves you, everything you do the dog learns from and reacts to the best of situations. The dog you don’t control but it will always find you somehow if you abandon it. This may seem like not a great feature but when you play it I bet you’ll like it. From what I read in the press kit it seems amazing. Below are two new concepts. Click on them for a larger image. Maybe Fable 2 will live up to promises by Molyneux, who knows?
Forza 2 Update March 8, 2007Posted by dpcough in GDC 07.
I got an update on Forza 2 today from Microsoft. Here’s a video of the auction house that was seen on Speed TV’s Forza Motorsport Showdown.
Also the game is set to include 50 American production cars with half making their Forza Motorsport debut.
Also talked about in the PR was the Livery editor. The Livery Editor adds a whole new level of customization to the game, giving the Forza community the freedom to truly “build their dream vehicle” using any of the 300+ cars in the game. With the new and improved Livery Editor, gamers can put their own personal touch on every vehicle in their garage using unique paint schemes, personalized decals and logos, as well as their own art creations. And thanks to the Xbox LIVE Auction House, you can lock down the design on your masterpiece, put it up for virtual sale and share it with the world — or at least the highest bidder. Who knows, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to see that your next great creation helped some lucky member of the global Forza community make it to the top of the leaderboard! For more details on the Livery Editor or the Auction House, cruise over to Forzamotorsport.net and check out this week’s Pitpass Report.
More Pinatas March 8, 2007Posted by dpcough in GDC 07, Microsoft Games, Xbox/ Xbox 360 General.
Viva Pinata has a TV Show, action figures releasing soon, a deal to make pinatas, a deal for greeting cards, and a game that hasn’t sold good even though it was released to critical acclaim. Luckily it is not being abandoned by Rare and they guaranteed it would be supported for at least two or three more years.
There is an upcoming Viva Pinata kart game for Xbox 360, not announced yet but it’s coming I know (maybe this holiday or in the summer.) Let’s see what happens, at least Rare acknowledged the franchise isn’t dieing. It hasn’t done that bad in sales when you think about it but hasn’t had as a successful launch as Pokemon did. Maybe it will soon.
Halo by Jackson is Episodic March 8, 2007Posted by dpcough in GDC 07, halo.

Back at X06 Peter Jackson participated in the keynote by Peter Moore and explained about story telling in video games and how so much is untapped in the industry still and that he’d be working on a Halo game. That’s good to know but no other news came out of X06 other than Halo game by Jackson on the project and he can talk good in front of a crowd. During the Blogger Breakfast at GDC people asked about the project. The response was this: “Our deal with Peter is not about a film guy who wants to make video games. We’re in the design phase now. The first series will be set in the Halo universe. In addition to this deal, Jackson continues to executive produce the currently on hiatus Halo feature film.” Peter Jackson is working with Bungie on making a new chapter in the Halo universe that will be episodic. It’s Halo so it will be on a disc most likely as the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map pack sold great in retail.
This is one of two episodic series Microsoft is working on. What’s the other one? Maybe they consider Mass Effect it or it is another one set in Halo. Hopefully the releases are timed correctly as an episode shouldn’t be two years apart like Half-Life 2’s episodes.
Mass Effect In May March 8, 2007Posted by dpcough in GDC 07.

Xbox Australia posted a date of May 18, 2007 for Mass Effect to be released on the day the cover art was unveiled and the date was removed. Not many people get the magazine Tips and Tricks but I get it free. It also listed the date as May 2007 and now the creators have stated it will come before E3 in July. The May date sounds even more correct now, I’m assuming it will come out at least a week before May 24 or in June though because Forza 2 releases May 24, can’t kill the gamer’s pockets in a week so Microsoft should spread the launches of two sure to be million copy sellers with about a month of space.

Today at GDC 07 in the absence of a major keynote Microsoft made an annoucement (I would’ve enjoyed a keynote like J Allard’s from last year but that’s just me maybe.) The savior of Japan Blue Dragon will release this year in America in the month August 2007. This game had excellent sales in Japan and RPG fans here are sure to buy it up also. Another Japanese title from Microsoft is Lost Oddyssey will have a worldwide release this fall! Lost Oddyssey hopefully can spur even more sales of Xbox 360 in Japan.

New Gears Maps March 6, 2007Posted by dpcough in GDC 07, Rumors.
A rumor has started about three new Gears of War maps and weapons. I’m a bit puzzled by weapons but it will be nice with a few more weapons and maps. I’m not sure if these are true but the trusty Rumor Finder of Live Gamer (or a hoax by Elite Gunner IV) says they are so let’s wait and see if they are announced at GDC this week.
UPDATE Xbox 360 Fanboy did some more searching and found out that a rumor from EGM states that maps and some other downloadable content would be released. There are three maps and three weapons below, something tells me that Elite Gunner IV wasn’t lying. And also the achievements will be changed so you can earn them in player matches also, hopefully that does happen because ranked matches can’t be played with friends.
1. Flamethrower (Confirmed)
2. Plasma Canon (Confirmed)
3. Dual wielded Uzi (In development)
1. Locust Cavern (Night)(Confirmed)
2. Locust Cavern (Day)(Confirmed)
3. Suburbs of Sera (Confirmed)

Xbox Live Milestones March 6, 2007Posted by dpcough in GDC 07, Xbox Live.
Today Microsoft announced a stat, there are six million subscribers to Xbox Live, this goal was reached four months ahead of schedule. They also announced that over 5 Billion points have been sold to us. Xbox Live’s top title remains Halo 2 followed by Gears and Hexic HD. The top arcade title is Street Fighter II.
The stats are pretty good but are solid and should be the stats Xbox Live does have but the best stat I felt was that when we are logged into Xbox Live we access Marketplace 50% of the time, something about that tells that Xbox Live Marketplace is very successful. There are more stats after the break from the press release. Stay tuned for more coverage of GDC 07 all week long.

Game Developer’s Conference 2007 kicked off today with some exciting annoucements from Microsoft. To start it off they announced the new Memory Card of 512 MB. It will begin to retail on April 3, 2007 for $49.99. The current one of 64 MB will decrease in price to $29.99 but something tells me retailers will discount it even further to get it off their shelves.
Also Microsoft talked about upcoming Xbox Live Arcade games and finally an increase in size for the maximum MB of Arcade from 50 MB to 150 MB. This annoucement comes after Martyn Brown previously stated there was no change, and then the way the world works the next day the size was increased :-). Time for more innovation in games now!
Also in the press release it talked about showcasing several arcade titles at GDC this week with Boom Boom Rocket costing 800 Microsoft Points when it releases in the Spring. Another title being shown is Rare’s Jetpac Refuelled which was finally announced. The full press release is after the break.
