EA Says Wii60 February 11, 2007Posted by dpcough in EA, Wii.

Over at the blog Information Arbitrage one of the EA (my favorite company! – not) developers of Command & Conquer 3 was talking about EA’s focus as a company. I find what he said to be the trend of recent:
“I make video games, currently working for Electronic Arts on the latest Command & Conquer. Last year, the prediction was that Sony would win the next-gen war, that the PS3 would be the dominant console, just like the PS2 was.
That is no longer the case. The extremely strong performance of the Wii, combined with the miserable performance of Sony has revised pretty much everyone’s expectations. Right now, most of us here think the 360 will be on top for this generation, with the battle for second place between Sony and Nintendo (and that’s a major shock, as we’d nearly written Nintendo off for the non-handheld market.) Most of us still think Sony will beat off Nintendo, simply due to the older graphics on the Wii, but it’s not a sure thing.
My opinion – get the 360 and/or the Wii. Skip the PS3 unless there’s a big change in the near future.
This seems to be a continuing trend among companies. They aren’t even brining C&C3 to PS3. In the latest issue of EGM there was an interview with Sony’s president and it was awful – terrible. EGM asked about why PS3s were in stock everywhere. He responded by saying they sell out within five minutes and he’d give EGM $1,200 if they could find one for him. The interview took place in early January. I could find A PS3 in Best Buy, EB Games, and Gamestop the day after Christmas and have always been able to find one since then. At least I choose the right two consoles in Xbox 360 and Wii. Did you?

Holiday 2006: Nintendo Wii Games November 18, 2006Posted by dpcough in Wii.

I’d like to debut a new feature today, Buying Guides. They will be featured at least once every season (there are four seasons). This buying guide explore the games you should buy for the Nintendo Wii this holiday season.
Even though we are 360 Fans at this site the Nintendo Wii offers a new way to play, even though it will be weak on online support unlike Xbox Live it is fun. We can’t ignore fun and here are the top five games you can get this holiday season.
Top 5 Wii Games for This Holiday Season
1. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Link is back again as himself in what is the spirtual sequel to one of the best games of all time, “The Ocarina of Time.” Link is stuck between the twilight dimension and Hyrule in this epic adventure with a new way to control Link with the Wiimote. For the first time ever you also play as a Wolf which is how Link is in the twilight world. This epic game promises over 50 Hours of Gameplay and for most people at least 70 or 80. While it is a major time investment, it doesn’t matter because it is fantastic.
2. Excite Truck
Excite Bike was a title for the NES and focused on High Jumps, now the sequel Excite Truck is the same but with trucks and is off terrain racer with huge landscapes, many trucks, and the driving feels great with its arcade style jumping and boosting.
3. Rayman Raving Rabbids.
The first non platformer in the Rayman series Rayman Raving Rabbids is 70 Mini Games with a few platforming levels as Rayman is captured and forced to dances, toss cows, and entertain the Rabbids. There is also four player party games included.
4. Wii Sports
Everyone will be playing Wii Sports. It is a pack-in with the Nintendo Wii and it includes five different sports games. Tennis, golf, boxing, bowling, and baseball are in this package with multiplayer support. The game utilizes the Wiimote’s unique abilities to make realistic game types.
5. Madden NFL 07
I’ve played Madden every year, it’s always the same thing. Why do I need to buy it twice this year? Well Madden on the Wii is vastly different with everything tailored to the Wiimote to make a unique and realistic way to play football games on a console in ways you never thought before.
My First Wii Experience November 6, 2006Posted by dpcough in Nintendo, Wii.
If you have noticed lately I’ve been Wii happy. Today I was both. I traded in my old Xbox and got $65 for it then pre-ordered Gears of War which my store recieves the 9th. While I was there they had a Wii kiosk out with Excite Truck in it. I had some hands on with Excite Truck and the Wii for the first time ever, in bold is my first Wii experience in the eyes of a Xbox 360 Owner (preview of launch guide, I decided the bottom will be in it:)
The Xbox 360 has two excellent releases with Gears of War and Viva Pinata soon, even Fuzion Frenzy 2. When I went to Gamestop to do a Xbox 360 pre-order I saw something the Nintendo Wii. There was no controller out so I asked the employee. He told me I need to give him something of value so I don’t walk out with the Wiimote. I gave him my car keys and he told me “Please put on the wrist strap.” I was like oh whatever, I didn’t so a minute later he told me to put it on or he’d take the Wiimote away. I put the wriststrap on and started Excite Truck. After getting it to finally work (I forgot you held the Wiimote sideways and kept pressing the D-pad incorrectly.) I chose the Excite Race and did two courses. I immediately got the feel of the game right away. You tilt the Wiimote to move and hold in 2 to accelarate and up on the D-Pad to use bursts when you get them. As simple as it was it was one of the best games I ever played. The whole time I was excited, tilting and turning. I got points for crashes and there were plently of boosts. The environments were full and widely open allowing me to take multiple paths. Then I finished both races in first place.
Even though it was only a small dose I have realized Nintendo’s statement is true – playing is believing. I didn’t care that there was no HD visuals, I didn’t care there was no online support, and I didn’t care I looked like an idiot moving my body and the controller around to drive. It was a ton of fun and I can’t wait for the Wii. It’s hard to believe it is less than two weeks now. I’m not Ready, I’m Wiieady.
Look for the Launch Guide soon and impressions of games and the console. Coming to you between the Gears of War matches!

One of the games that I am most excited about for the Wii is Warioware: Smooth Moves, no one knows when it comes out though other than the launch window. With the box art recently released though I anticipate it comes out very, very, soon. Maybe even launch for the Wii. I just have to mention this since i am a Warioware and Wii fan more everyday!
Walmart Wii October 13, 2006Posted by dpcough in Wii.

I was up at Digital Life so I wasn’t able to get to EB Games or Gamestop to preorder a Wii so I missed out on the EB Games and Gamestop fun. Instead I will be going to a Walmart where I have $100 in giftcards to anyway. I contacted them and have found out that that they will have one to two associates outside keeping an orderly line. At 12:01 A.M. they will open the doors keeping an orderly line for everyone to buy a Wii. Not the best system because I doubt all the fanboys waiting for Zelda will keep an orderly line, guess I just gotta get there early. I’ll be sure to bring my camera and report to you guys when I am at launch when I get back – after I play my Wii though. Funds: $200 – need $150 more to get what I want.
Wii Internet October 11, 2006Posted by dpcough in Wii.

With the Nintendo Wii releasing in about six weeks now Nintendo has posted a new video with a demonstration of its Wii’s browser. The video is a bit boring but the browser very cool. I look forward to it at Wii launch because as of now the Xbox 360 does not have one but there is no keyboard support it appears. My computer isn’t the best so this is a very new and welcome addition to consoles for me.
One Million Wiis To Launch September 25, 2006Posted by dpcough in Wii.

The Reggie from Nintendo has stated that the Wii will have four million units out by the end of the year and now Canada’s executive stated how many they will have, “We’re looking at a million [units] for North America at launch.,” commented Nintendo of Canada VP and general manager Ron Bertram. It will be much easier to get these then the Xbox 360 so don’t get worried about preordering a Wii.
EDIT: I also noticed that now I have posted over 100 items of content on to the site, so you all know – I won’t stop. I just need to start making more podcasts as my last one was back in August. I’ll get on it, sorry for delay there.
Preorder A Wii At Gamestop Audio September 24, 2006Posted by dpcough in Wii.
Here is a very funny audio clip on the Nintendo Wii to preorder. It had me laughing really hard. A guy contacted the Gamestop Corporate and questioned them, it is really funny. I know I am calling Gamestop and EB Games to voice how I don’t like it, I am actually not going to shop there anymore and start going to Best Buy more often and for trade-ins GameCrazy.
Wii Pricing and Date September 15, 2006Posted by dpcough in Wii.

You heard the title right, the pricing and date of the Wii Console have been announced. It is coming out on November 19th, 2006 for $249.99. It includes a copy of Wii Sports that recently had boxing and bowling added. I disagree with the price point considering Reggie stated they are making money with every console sold, I believe they should sell it at exactly the price that it costs to make it. They are making a lot on something that costs most likely about $150 to make, most likely less. But I’ll go get it since it is pretty cheap (even if the more powerful Xbox is $150.) I’m excited though, look for an FAQ on the Wii soon.
